Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
We are in Fountain Square Mall across from the courthouse in beautiful downtown Bloomington, Indiana. We have an interior office which means we do not have a street entrance and you must enter the building to find us. We are in Suite 122 (The Bodyworks Studio) & 127 (Bloomington Massage) on the first floor.
From the 4th St. Garage: Come through the skywalk from the 2nd floor of the 4th street parking garage and you'll walk right into the Atrium of Fountain Square Mall and our offices are just on your right.
From the Kirkwood entrance: Walk straight back past the gold elevator & red phone booth and make a left. We are the last office on the left before the elevator.
From the Walnut entrance: We are directly above the closed Cafe. Head up the stairs and make a right, following the railing. We are the last office before the elevator.
Did you go to school for this?
Yes. Indiana law requires the completion of a certification program of no less than 600 hours. All of our massage therapists are certified and hold Indiana massage licenses, and therefore, have completed an educational program to learn anatomy, physiology, techniques, & ethics.
What do the sessions cost?
Rates are based on the length of time, additional tools, training, or specialty lotions used. Pricing can be found in the Book Now tab.
Do you offer discounts?
We do! Limited edition discounts can be found on our Facebook Page and others can be found under the Specials tab.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask that you give us a minimum of 24 business hours' notice on cancellation/rescheduling of an appointment or full payment for the scheduled time is due. This should be done by phone at 812-333-4917. You can also log into your online booking account to cancel online.
Therapists work on commission. This means that even if they are ready and available to work they won't get any income from canceled appointments. By providing 24 hours' notice we may have time to book a new client in that slot and preserve our therapists' livelihood.
If you must cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, we understand, things happen. We hope you are safe and it is a non-emergency. You may be charged 100% of the cost of the service, in order to provide payment to the therapist who was not available to others and ready to work for you.

What clothes do I take off/leave on?
A common phrase is "Dress down to your comfort level." But what does that mean? It means a therapist is never going to push you to do something that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Know that we will leave the room for you to undress & dress, and during the session, you will be "draped" (or covered with a sheet and possibly blanket) for modesty during your session. The MT will only un-drape the area they are working on at that time. Part of our training is learning proper secure draping to create safe boundaries for our clients and ourselves as we work.
In general, the less clothing the easier it is for us to do our work. We are accustomed to working on individuals who are either wearing underwear only (no bra) or are fully nude under the sheets. That being said, you are REQUIRED BY INDIANA LAW to have your genitals covered during the massage at all times. We comply with and support these professional laws. Do not request absolutely no coverage during your session. If you run hot we can use a sheet and drape you for maximum coolness & comfort.
What areas of the body do you work on?
All areas that are legal and useful to you. Most commonly back, neck, shoulders, hamstrings, feet, etc. In some cases abdominal massage is appropriate. We can also work adductors (inner thigh), pecs, and even the head! Per the law: breast tissue and genitals will not be addressed in your session and a request to do so will immediately terminate the service.
Do you take tips?
Gratuity is accepted and applied when you checkout. Standards are similar to other industries in that gratuity is not mandatory but is always appreciated, and rates are similar to other industries (10-20%).
Can you help with (x)?
Chances are the answer is "Yes." We can improve most areas of discomfort, be it pain or stress-related. If you are currently under the care of a physician, chiropractor, or other healthcare professionals, it is advised you ask for their recommendations regarding your condition and massage. Bringing this information to your session will help your MT execute the best plan for you and your needs.
In some instances, we may not be able to help you and will have to ask you to reschedule your appointment for a later date.
These instances include:
-
If you have a contagious rash or illness (including the flu or poison ivy)
-
If you have a fever. Please wait 48 hours after fevers & illness before coming in for an appointment.
-
If you have recently been in an accident and have not been checked out and cleared by a physician. Example: If yesterday you had a fender bender and didn't go to the hospital but woke up today with neck pain. That could be whiplash and if we touch you your insurance will not cover ANY treatment because they can claim we can't confirm it was the crash. Get cleared first!
-
If you have taken a muscle relaxer in the last 6-8 hours. We can help chronic pain but muscle relaxers inhibit your ability to feel and process our work and can lead to real injuries and problems. Feel free to take one before bed the night before but please wait until after the session before you take more.
Will you come to my home for a session?
Outcall massage is based on the availability of therapists and the needs of the client. We understand that some people have trouble traveling, and for these clients, we will typically make arrangements. There is a travel fee and additional charge for outcall sessions. Please know, the city of Bloomington has inspected our office and has confirmed that we are fully disability accessible!! Fountain Square Mall and our office are happy to accommodate your specific needs as you communicate them to us!
We will occasionally do outcalls for events as well.
If you are interested in getting a quote for an outcall please fill out a request form and email it to bloomingtonbodyworks4917@gmail.com.
General protocol of an appointment.
When you arrive for your first appointment you will be greeted and your therapist will check that your digital intake form has been completed, this includes a signed acknowledgment of our policies and a health intake form.
Your therapist will review your intake form to understand the condition of your body and what will best suit your needs.
You will be escorted into the session space where you and your therapist will discuss your goals for the session and they can answer your questions.
Your therapist will exit and close the door so you can undress and get on the table underneath the sheets and blanket.
Your therapist will re-enter and begin the massage. This is when the time STARTS on your massage session, unless you were running late. The session will last the length of time dictated by your appointment/charge.
After the massage, the therapist will leave the room and you may take your time getting dressed while the therapist washes and sanitizes the tools.
You will leave the room and meet your therapist at the desk where you will be checked out for your service. We have gone paperless so please request a receipt if you would like one printed or emailed.
We request you drink lots of water after your massage for the best benefits.
If you have any other questions for us please contact us via this website, phone, email, or facebook! We are happy to answer any questions you might have!
